Looking for a unique attraction to visit during your trip to Oxford? Don’t miss the beautiful estate of Rowan Oak, the former home of author William Faulkner. The private home is now open to the public with tours, galleries and gardens to help you reconstruct the author’s life and experiences in the 1930s..
Click here for interactive driving directions to Rowan Oak from the hotel, powered by Google.

Rowan Oak is a two-story white frame home that was built in the 1840s. William Faulkner purchased the property in the 1930s and renovated it by installing plumbing and electricity, painting the walls and redesigning the façade. He later filled it with antiques and furnishings, and also created his own private office where he kept his typewriter and other writing tools. Today, the house is open to visitors who want to catch a glimpse of this novelist’s lifestyle; a tour of the grounds will take you behind the house to the stable and cook’s house, the smokehouse and gardens that have been preserved and maintained for several decades.
Rowan Oak is just a short drive from the Downtown Oxford Inn, giving you a chance to take in a literary tour during your visit to Oxford. After your busy day of sightseeing and touring, you can look forward to a comfortable stay at the Downtown Oxford Inn; all of our guests enjoy complimentary services and amenities including high-speed wireless Internet access in the lobby and meeting rooms, access to an outdoor pool and exercise facility, and a Deluxe Continental Breakfast served each morning.
